A committee was formed and a fund set up, and the result of a lot of hard
work was some serious money to spend on a party.
Originally the party was going to be a simple street party on a couple of
tables outside someone's house but news got out and it was decided at an early
stage to make it a 'Community' party for the residents of the original area of
Charlotteville as it was created before the turn of the 20th century.
In all, this area has a complete cross section of some 1600 residents.
Attendance at the party would be competed for by the County Show (held at Stoke
Park) and the will of most residents to take advantage of the long bank holiday
weekend to go away and get some sun.
Absolutely Fantastic! Was the view of most.of the 600+ party goers - the
youngest at only 6 days old failed to give much of an opinion.
Led by our own queen, the crowd some 200 strong; in superb fancy dress
paraded along the roads for some 45 minutes culminating in Russell Chamberlin
cutting the tape.
